A 30-year-old man has been arrested in Thessaloniki after confessing to the murder of his 67-year-old father, police said.

The suspect lived with his father in the same detached house in Triadi, a suburb in the municipality of Thermi near Thessaloniki, Greece’s second-largest city. His sister had reportedly been trying to reach their father since Saturday but was unable to contact him. When she went to the house on Sunday afternoon, according to local outlet thestival.gr, she found her father dead in the basement, lying in a pool of blood, and immediately alerted police.

The woman then went upstairs to her brother’s room and woke him. He then told her that he had killed their father following an argument.

According to the first findings of the investigation, the 67-year-old victim suffered injuries to the face caused by a sharp object. The exact cause of death is expected to be determined on Monday following an autopsy.

A forensic pathologist and a team from Northern Greece’s Criminal Investigations Division were called to the house to collect evidence as part of the preliminary investigation.
