A 32-year-old woman of Cypriot descent was arrested in Larissa on Sunday, May 19, in connection with a disturbing case of domestic abuse. Officers from Larissa’s Security Division took the mother into custody after an investigation revealed evidence of prolonged mistreatment of her two young children.

The case began to unfold on Saturday, May 17, when the woman took her 6-year-old daughter to the Larissa General Hospital, concerned about a persistent cough. During the medical examination, doctors discovered multiple injuries on the child’s body, including burn marks consistent with cigarette burns.

The hospital staff immediately alerted authorities, prompting further examination of the family. A subsequent medical evaluation of the 5-year-old son revealed similar injuries—some recent, others older—suggesting ongoing abuse over an extended period.

According to forensic experts, the signs of maltreatment on both children point to repeated and systematic abuse within their home. The siblings, a 6-year-old girl and her 5-year-old brother, are now being treated at the hospital’s pediatric unit.

The mother has been charged with domestic violence and endangering the welfare of minors. Authorities are also investigating the possibility that the children’s father may have been involved in the abuse.

Reports indicate the woman herself may have been a victim of domestic violence in the past, allegedly at the hands of her former husband.

The 32-year-old is expected to appear before a prosecutor today to give her statement as investigations continue into this harrowing case of suspected long-term child abuse.
