It occurred on April 1st, but it was no April Fool’s Day news item, as reports from the eastern Aegean island of Lesbos hold that a group of younger primary school pupils were forgotten by teachers at a church in the island capital of Mytilene after attending a service.

According to local media reports, more than 10 children remained in the church and surrounding premises without the presence of a teacher or chaperone after the service.

Realizing they had been left behind, the children became confused – some were visibly distressed – while others started crying, not knowing where to go or what to do.

The situation was noticed by the church’s sexton, who assembled the children and safely escorted them back to their school.
