New evidence in the death of 19-year-old Myrto in Kefalonia is challenging claims made by the three men remanded in custody, as the investigation continues into the circumstances of her final hours.
According to reports, the publication of Myrto’s final conversations with her mother appears to undermine the suspects’ claim that the 19-year-old had been in conflict with her family because of pressure and oppression.
Instead, the messages point to a close and affectionate relationship. In one of their final exchanges, Myrto’s mother dedicated a song to her daughter.
“I dedicate this to you with much love, from your mother to you,” her mother wrote.
Myrto replied: “My mom, thank you very much, I listened to it.”
Her mother then continued: “I dedicate it to you, my life, beautiful girl, I love you so much.”
Myrto’s aunt has also raised questions about the validity of evidence presented by the accused, noting that they had the 19-year-old’s mobile phone in their possession.
“She was a sweet soul. How do I know that he wasn’t the one writing the messages, that they didn’t fabricate the story? They will never tell the truth,” she said.
She also said that the abandonment of Myrto by the three men proves the absence of any concern for her life.
Toxicology tests have also been completed, revealing traces of cocaine, cannabis and alcohol in Myrto’s blood. Experts said the interaction of these substances can significantly increase toxicity, effectively creating what has been described as a “chemical bomb” in the body. Authorities are still awaiting histological examination results before reaching definitive conclusions on the cause of death.
The case was initially treated as a sudden and unexplained death, prompting a full forensic investigation. Three men, aged 26, 23 and 22, have been arrested in connection with the case and face felony-level charges, including voluntary manslaughter. They are said to be giving contradictory testimonies, with each shifting responsibility.
Myrto was found in a comatose state in a public square in Argostoli in the early hours of Easter Tuesday, around 4:30 a.m., after allegedly being transported there and left behind. She later died in hospital.
Investigators are examining what happened earlier that night inside a short-term rental property in Argostoli, where Myrto had reportedly spent the night. Earlier reports said she began suffering severe convulsions inside the apartment, reportedly linked to cocaine use, before being taken outside.
The investigation has also focused on who was inside the property, amid conflicting accounts about its occupancy, as well as surveillance footage, phone records and the movements of those present.
Myrto’s family has repeatedly demanded answers, while her sister has publicly appealed for anyone with information to come forward, even anonymously.
“For me, everyone is responsible until proven otherwise,” she said. “If people speak, we may be shocked by what comes out.”
