A police investigation is underway after two young adults were found dead inside a car parked in the garage of a residential building in the port city of Piraeus, near Athens.
According to Greek police, the victims were a 28-year-old man and a 24-year-old woman. They were discovered inside the vehicle on Tuesday morning, shortly before 10 a.m. by the man’s father, who reportedly removed them from the car and attempted to revive them with CPR before emergency services arrived.
The couple was transported to Tzaneio General Hospital, where they were pronounced dead.

According to the initial findings of the forensic examiner, the couple died after inhaling toxic exhaust fumes that entered the car’s cabin through the vehicle’s air conditioning system.
Preliminary information indicates that the engine was left running, the air conditioning was switched on, and the garage was completely sealed. Under those conditions, exhaust fumes are believed to have entered the passenger compartment through the air conditioning system, causing the couple to lose consciousness.
Police have ruled out signs of foul play, as no injuries were found on either victim.
Authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the deaths, with all possibilities remaining under consideration, including the possibility of suicide.
