Emmanouil Karalis once again climbed the podium at a major international event, securing the silver medal with a clearance of 6.05 meters at the World Indoor Championships in Torun, Poland, on Saturday evening.

The 27-year-old Greek pole vaulter, widely known as “Manolo,” continues to build an impressive legacy, now boasting eight medals at major competitions—three of them at the World Indoor Championships.
Karalis delivered a thrilling performance in a fierce duel with Sweden’s Armand Duplantis, who ultimately claimed gold with a winning jump of 6.25 meters.

At 6.00m—where the competition intensified—Karalis succeeded on his second attempt, a height that effectively narrowed the field. Four athletes remained in contention: Duplantis, Karalis, Norway’s Sondre Guttormsen, and Australia’s Kurtis Marschall, all advancing to 6.05m.

Duplantis chose to pass that height, while Karalis cleared it cleanly on his first attempt. Guttormsen and Marschall failed, leaving the Greek and the Swede alone in the battle for gold.

Karalis strategically skipped 6.10m and 6.15m, opting to attempt 6.20m, while Duplantis cleared both intermediate heights with ease. Karalis was unsuccessful at 6.20m, and both athletes moved on to 6.25m. There, Duplantis secured victory with a flawless first attempt.

Karalis made two attempts at the same height but was unable to clear the bar, bringing the final to a close—and confirming another remarkable achievement in his career.
