Μake us preferred on Google Greek swimmer Apostolos Siskos won the silver medal in the men’s 200-meter backstroke at the European Aquatics Championships in Paris, setting a new national record with a time of 1:53.81.

Siskos, 21, improved on his previous national record of 1:54.06, set in the semifinals, to finish behind Hungary’s Olympic champion Hubert Kos, who won gold in 1:53.08.
The result further strengthens Siskos’ position among Europe’s leading backstroke swimmers. He is now third on the all-time European performance list in the 200-meter backstroke and has won silver in the event at two consecutive European championships.
Siskos had also emerged as one of Greece’s leading swimmers earlier this year. In May, he set a national record of 1:54.12 in the 200-meter backstroke at the Acropolis Swim Open in Athens, at the time the fastest performance in the world in 2026. World Aquatics ranked that swim third globally as of June 24.
His international breakthrough came at the 2024 European Championships in Belgrade, where he won silver in the same event with a time of 1:55.42. He also competed at the Paris 2024 Olympics, where he finished 14th in the 200-meter backstroke.
The swimmer, who was born in Serres in 2005, specializes in backstroke and butterfly and has established himself as one of the leading figures in the next generation of Greek swimming.
