A short video clip of French President Emmanuel Macron seemingly getting slapped in the face by his wife, Brigitte Macron, at the Hanoi airport in Vietnam, where the airplane landed as part of their tour across Asia is making the internet rounds.
The unexpected incident was captured on camera on Sunday night, May 25, 2025, during the arrival of Emmanuel Macron and Brigitte Macron at the Hanoi airport in Vietnam.
As the aircraft door opened, the camera revealed the silhouette of President Emmanuel Macron when two hands—belonging to the French first lady, who was not visible—appeared in the frame and made contact with the French president’s face in a motion that resembled a slap.
The French president appears visibly surprised but quickly manages to regain his composure and proceed to greet those present, in line with official protocol.
The presidential couple begins to descend the aircraft stairs. In his characteristic manner, the French president subtly extends his hand toward his wife. However, Brigitte Macron pointedly refuses to take it, instead holding onto the railing of the folding staircase, prompting speculation about what might have occurred between them. The video has since, unsurprisingly, circulated widely online.
