A man was detained in Liverpool on Monday afternoon after police had earlier (18.00 GMT) received reports a car colliding with “a number of pedestrians” on Water Street, as thousands watched the Premier League trophy parade through the city’s center.

BBC reported that it was not yet known how many people are injured or if anyone has been killed. An air ambulance landed in the area and a large number of police cordons in place.

In an initial reaction, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer described the situation in Liverpool as “appalling”.

“My thoughts are with all those injured or affected,” he added.

The incident follows an afternoon of celebration as thousands of Liverpool fans watched the parade in honor of the Club winning the 2024-2025 championship.
