Athens is about to get a serious dose of rhythm. On Friday, May 30, the Theatre of the NO—the city’s first English-speaking theatre—presents an electrifying evening of tap dance, body music, and live performance: Tap Dance Nights: The Soul Stamps I & II.

At the heart of this boundary-pushing showcase is dancer and musician Thanos Das (aka Thanos Daskalopoulos), a performer known for reimagining tap dance as a dynamic form of musical collaboration. With one foot in tradition and the other in innovation, Das blends choreography and composition into an expressive, percussive experience where the body becomes both instrument and storyteller.

The evening features two brand-new works that draw from African American musical traditions while leaning boldly into the future:

Soul Stamp I – The Duet

A soulful conversation between tap, body music, and guitar, this intimate piece explores themes of faith and endurance through the lens of jazz-funk and R&B. Das is joined onstage by guitarist Dimitris Mon, whose textured loops and effects craft a vibrant soundscape for tap to dance through.

Performers:
Thanos Das – Tap, body music, vocals, drums
Dimitris Mon – Guitar, loops & FX

Soul Stamp II – The Company

Eight dancers and musicians bring the stage to life in this high-energy ensemble piece, where neo-soul grooves, body percussion, and original compositions collide. A live band, electronic elements, and layered rhythms turn this into a full-blown celebration of movement and sound—body music like you’ve never seen or heard before.

Musicians:
Orestes Steele – Guitar, keys & beats
