Μake us preferred on Google Kyriakos Pierrakakis is in Berlin on Tuesday for his first visit to Germany as president of the Eurogroup, with talks set to focus on the eurozone’s economic outlook and closer coordination among its member states.
Pierrakakis is due to meet German Chancellor Friedrich Merz and Lars Klingbeil, Germany’s vice chancellor and federal finance minister, as Europe confronts challenges to growth and competitiveness.
The meetings will cover macroeconomic developments and the outlook for the European economy, with particular attention to fiscal coordination across the eurozone. Financial integration is also expected to feature prominently, including efforts to deepen the EU’s Banking Union and advance the Savings and Investments Union.
The Berlin visit comes as Pierrakakis seeks to emphasize the Eurogroup’s role in coordinating economic policy across the single-currency area. “I am looking forward to my first visit to Germany as President of the Eurogroup,” the Greek minister of Finance said. “Our economies are currently facing numerous challenges. Only through better coordination can we overcome these challenges and put Europe back on the path to growth. The Eurogroup is in a unique position to play a pivotal role in coordinating economic policies in the eurozone area,” he concluded.
Pierrakakis will also take part in a public event hosted by the Jacques Delors Centre at the Hertie School.
