Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis visited the Serres Motor Racing Circuit in northern Greece on Sunday, where he toured the facilities, received a briefing on plans to modernize the track and took a turn behind the wheel.
The government has approved €11.16 million in funding for the upgrade through the National Sports Development Program. Mitsotakis discussed how the funds would be used with the circuit’s management during his visit.
He was welcomed by Serres Mayor Varvara Mitliaga, who also chairs the circuit’s governing body, and was shown around the facilities by her and other members of the administration. Mitsotakis was accompanied by Deputy Foreign Minister Tasos Chatzivasileiou and lawmakers Fotini Arampatzi and Theofilos Leontaridis.

One-kilometer extension and upgraded facilities
The modernization plan includes redesigning and extending the circuit by one kilometer to bring it into line with modern international racing standards.
The project also предусматри upgrades to the circuit’s buildings, technical and racing equipment, as well as safety improvements intended to ensure full compliance with strict international requirements.
Once the work is completed, the goal is for the Serres circuit to become the first track in Greece to obtain FIA Grade 3 and FIM Grade B certifications.
These certifications would allow it to host major international car and motorcycle racing events, including competitions at the World Superbike level.
