As part of efforts to promote fitness and wellbeing, the European Week of Sport – All Crete Blue Green festival kicks off this week in Chania and Heraklion encouraging people of all ages to get active and connect with nature.

The eight-day festival, an Erasmus+ Sport initiative which runs through to September 30, brings more than 45 outdoor sports and wellness activities, workshops and open sessions, as well as 30 talks and presentations in Greek and English. Organizations and speakers from Greece and 10 other European countries are taking part.

The program includes a wide range of activities, from walking, hiking, and trail running and SUP yoga to kayaking, paddleboarding, open-water swimming and sailing. Other options include beach volleyball, windsurfing, canoeing, aqua aerobics, breathing and meditation exercises, traditional Greek dancing and activities for children. The festival also places a strong emphasis on wellbeing, inclusion and the relationship between physical activity and mental health.

Talk topics include promoting social inclusion through outdoor exploration, digital detox and reconnecting with nature, women and embodied cultural heritage, healthy lifestyles and recovery, and the role of mental strength in endurance sports. The Deep Blue Green program is an EU-funded Erasmus+ Sport initiative focused on promoting physical activity, mental wellbeing and social inclusion through outdoor activities and engagement with nature.

Co-funded by the European Union, the European Week of Sport 2026 – All Crete Blue-Green is being held under the auspices of the Region of Crete. All events are free of charge. For the full program and registration details, visit the official All Crete Blue Green or European Week of Sport websites.
