Greek authorities are continuing their investigation after the body of a woman was found inside a suitcase in an abandoned building in Athens, as police work to establish both her identity and the circumstances surrounding her death.

According to investigators, the victim was of small build, approximately 1.60 meters (5 ft 3 in) tall, with reddish hair tied in a bun. She was wearing a black T-shirt and black shorts, and a preliminary external examination found no visible bruises, injuries or tattoos that could immediately help identify her or determine the cause of death.

The body was in an advanced state of decomposition, with experts estimating the woman died between five and seven days before it was discovered. Investigators have not ruled out the possibility that the body was moved from another location, where environmental conditions may have slowed decomposition.

DNA Tests Underway

Police are reviewing recent missing persons reports, including the case of a 50-year-old Chinese woman who disappeared from the Athens suburb of Artemida. DNA collected from the missing woman’s personal belongings is being compared with samples from the body to determine whether there is a match.

Former senior police official Giorgos Kalliakmanis said investigators are considering all possibilities, including a potential connection to the missing woman, but stressed that no conclusions can be drawn until the DNA results are available.

He also noted that, while the concealment of a body often raises suspicions of homicide, investigators have not yet established the cause of death.

Investigation Continues

The abandoned building where the suitcase was found is known to police as a location frequented by drug users. Authorities said the information is being examined as part of the investigation, although no connection to the case has been established.

Police and forensic experts continue to investigate as they seek to identify the woman and determine how she died.
