The platform for the expanded Relocation Program opens on Wednesday, October 14, while document submission for the “Anakainizo” (I Renovate) program will begin within the next ten days, Minister of Social Cohesion and Family Domna Michailidou announced on SKAI TV this morning.

“On October 14, we are opening the Relocation platform, giving €10,000 to citizens who want to settle permanently in the country’s border regions, with 50% of the amount paid in advance. At the same time, within the next ten days, document submission for ‘Anakainizo’ will begin, so citizens can receive 50% of the subsidy as an advance payment. We are linking our housing tools so that every citizen can use the one that meets their own needs: to move, to renovate their home, or to buy a first home,” the minister said.

After Evros, the Relocation Program is expanding to Kilkis, Florina, Kastoria, Drama, Pella, Grevena, Kozani, Serres, Ioannina, and Thesprotia. Citizens currently living either in Greece or abroad who choose to settle permanently in the participating areas will be eligible.

The program has been simplified based on the needs raised by local communities themselves, making it easier to use and more attractive for those who want to settle permanently in these areas. Applicants no longer need to prove that they work in the place where they are settling. It is enough to own or rent a home in the area, and the relocation can also be to a town, not only to a village.

For “Anakainizo,” about 94,000 certificates have already been issued, of which about 80,000 concern owner-occupied homes and 14,000 concern vacant properties. In October, once the relevant platform opens, citizens will be able to submit the required documents and declare their expenses in order to receive 50% of the subsidy in advance. The subsidy can cover up to 95% of eligible expenses and up to €36,000 per home, provided the property undergoes a light energy upgrade.

Michailidou also referred to the new “Spiti mou III” (My Home III) program, through which about 20,000 more citizens will be able to buy a first home. The program significantly broadens eligibility criteria: it covers ages 25 to 55, applies to homes worth up to €300,000, and provides loans of up to €230,000. For couples, the income limit is set at €35,000 and increases by €7,000 for each child. Large families will also be able to buy a bigger home.

The new program expands access to homeownership following “Spiti mou II,” through which more than 14,100 citizens bought a home.

Referring to housing policy data, the minister noted that the average beneficiary of “Spiti mou II” was 38 years old. On property prices, she pointed out that, according to studies so far, the prices of homes bought through the “Spiti mou I” and “Spiti mou II” programs followed a similar trend to the rest of the market, and there is no evidence that the programs led to a different rate of increase.
