Greek police have announced a series of traffic regulations in light of the long weekend and the March 25th Greek Independence Day parade on Monday that will gradually take effect from Friday, March 22.

The measures will be implemented across the country’s road network to ensure the safe passage of citizens and prevent road accidents. These include:

  • Policing of the road network in specific areas, based on the unique traffic conditions of each region.
  • Traffic measures at entrances and exits of major urban centers with significant vehicular volume.
  • Traffic control with pedestrian traffic wardens at key intersections to avoid traffic congestion.
  • Increased traffic measures in areas with mass passenger presence (airports, ports, stations, etc.).
  • Traffic regulations in areas where parades and festive events are scheduled to unfold.
  • Presence of traffic wardens at toll stations across the country to facilitate traffic flow.

In addition, changes to the metro and tram will also be in effect on March 25th due to the parades. According to the Athens Urban Rail Transport (STASY), on the eve of the national anniversary, the following will apply:

– The “Syntagma” metro station, will remain closed on Sunday, March 24th, and Monday, March 25th, from 8 in the morning until the end of the parades. Trains will pass through without stopping.
– Tram schedules on Line 6 “Pikrodafni – Syntagma” will have a temporary terminus on Sunday, March 24th, from 10 in the morning at the “Vouliagmenis Av.” stop, and on Monday, March 25th, from the start of operation at the “Fix” stop until the end of the parades.
– On Line 7 “Kalamaki – Agia Triada Piraeus” on Monday, March 25th, schedules will terminate at the “Sef” (Peach & Friendship) stop from 9 in the morning until 2 in the afternoon.

Athens’ Municipality schools are scheduled to parade in the city center on Sunday, March 24, while the celebrations for the Greek National Anniversary on March 25 culminate with the military parade in Athens on Monday. School parades in other municipalities are also programmed for the same day.
