Rhodes Mayor Alexandros Koliadis gave answers a short while ago at a press conference about the “Horiatiko” case, his meetings with people included in the police investigation, and a National Transparency Authority document found at the home of a defendant.
Koliadis denied any improper involvement in the case, stressing that he is not a defendant and that both he and the municipality’s services are at the disposal of the relevant authorities.
The National Transparency Authority document and the July meeting
He made particular reference to a meeting held on July 29, 2026, with a person included in the investigation, as well as to a National Transparency Authority document, a copy of which was found during police searches.
The mayor confirmed that the meeting took place but denied handing over the document during it. He said the document was sent to the Municipality of Rhodes on September 17, 2026, and was officially registered on September 21, about 50 days after the meeting.
He added that the document was not a personal notice to the mayor but was addressed to about 15 parties, including former elected officials and municipal staff, asking them to provide explanations as part of the National Transparency Authority’s investigation.
The contact with Giannakopoulos and the beach concessions
Referring to his contacts with businessman Angelos Giannakopoulos, who is linked to the “Horiatiko” case, Koliadis confirmed that they met in August 2026. He explained that the meeting was about resolving pending issues at a business so it could operate the following year. He said his response was that all legal procedures had to be followed.
The mayor also referred to the municipal authority’s actions regarding business activities on Rhodes beaches. Specifically, for Agathi beach, he said interventions were carried out in 2024, resulting in the removal of business activities.
He also raised the issue of transparency in property and beach concessions granted by the Public Properties Company (ETAD), pointing to the need to publish the companies that obtain usage rights and the related rents.
“I am not a defendant,” Koliadis stressed, repeating that he is ready to provide any information requested by prosecutors and judicial authorities.
In closing, the mayor of Rhodes also left open the possibility of further action by himself and the Municipality of Rhodes over reports and references that, in his view, present him in a way that does not reflect reality.
