A Greek court has handed down a life imprisonment to a man convicted of killing Polish professor Przemyslaw Jeziorzski in east Athens’ Agia Paraskevi district in July 2025.

The 35-year-old was convicted as the direct perpetrator of the killing, which took place on July 4, 2025, when the professor was shot multiple times in the Athens suburb. The case involved five defendants, including the professor’s former wife, who was accused of being the alleged moral instigator of the murder.

The former wife, who had been held in pretrial detention in connection with the case, was found dead in the near-Piraeus Korydallos prison in June 2026 in what authorities treated as a suicide. She therefore did not stand trial for her alleged role in the slaying.

The investigation into the murder had indicated that the former couple had been involved in disputes over the custody of their two children and in dividing assets. The victim had also reported the eventual killer to police in 2024 over an alleged assault and threats, according to background published at the time.

The case attracted widespread attention because of the circumstances surrounding the killing and the involvement of the victim’s former wife. The professor, who was associated with the University of California, Berkeley, had been visiting Greece to see his twin children when he was gunned down in the middle of the road.
