Greece is set for another day of unsettled weather on Wednesday, with increased cloud cover and local rainfall across much of the east and north, as temperatures continue to edge lower.

Rain is expected in parts of Central Greece, Thessaly, particularly its eastern areas, and Evia, as well as central and eastern Macedonia, Thrace, the Sporades and the northern and eastern Aegean islands.

The eastern Aegean will see more widespread rainfall during the morning. Showers are expected to intensify locally toward the evening in Evia, Magnesia and northeastern Central Greece. Brief periods of rain are also forecast later in the day in parts of the Cyclades and northern Crete.

Visibility will be locally reduced overnight and during the early morning, particularly in western Greece, where fog may develop.

Temperatures fall further

Temperatures are expected to drop slightly further, particularly in eastern Greece and across the Aegean.

Western Macedonia will see temperatures ranging from 1 to 11 degrees Celsius, while the rest of Macedonia and Thrace will experience lows of 4 degrees and highs of 16–17 degrees.

Temperatures in Thessaly will reach 16–17 degrees, while Epirus will see highs of around 16 degrees. Elsewhere on the mainland, temperatures will range from 19 to 21 degrees.

The Ionian Islands will reach 19–20 degrees, while temperatures across the Aegean islands and Crete will range from 19 to 22 degrees.

Winds reach 6 Beaufort in the Aegean

Northeasterly winds of 5–6 Beaufort are forecast in the northern Aegean. The rest of the Aegean will experience northerly to northwesterly winds of up to 6 Beaufort.

In the Ionian Sea, northerly to northwesterly winds will reach 5 Beaufort before gradually weakening after midday.

Weather in Athens and Thessaloniki

In the Athens region of Attica, partly cloudy skies are expected, with cloud cover increasing at times and a chance of brief, light showers.

Northerly to northeasterly winds will reach 4–5 Beaufort, strengthening locally to 6 Beaufort in eastern parts of the region. Temperatures in central Athens will range from 14 to 20–21 degrees Celsius.

Thessaloniki will see some cloud cover but no significant rainfall. Northerly to northwesterly winds will reach 5 Beaufort before gradually weakening after midday. Temperatures in the city center will range from 9 to 16 degrees.

Greece weather forecast for Thursday and Friday

Weather conditions are expected to improve somewhat on Thursday, with rainfall becoming more limited. Local showers will initially affect northern and eastern mainland areas, potentially spreading to other parts of the mainland later in the day. Most of the rest of the country will see better conditions, with only occasional cloud cover.

Temperatures will fall further in northern Greece, where they are not expected to exceed 14 degrees. Elsewhere on the mainland, highs will range from 18 to 21 degrees.

Similar conditions are forecast for Friday, with isolated showers persisting mainly in eastern mainland areas.

Temperatures will remain slightly below previous levels, reaching 14–15 degrees in the north and 17–20 degrees across central and southern Greece.
