Μake us preferred on Google Three of five people in a car that crashed on Poseidonos Avenue in the southern Athens suburb of Glyfada early Thursday have died from their injuries.
Two of the victims were 26 and 23 years old, while the identity of the third has not yet been established. The other two passengers, both born in 2008, remain under medical care. One is in critical condition at Asklipieio Voula Hospital.
Crash in the early hours
The crash occurred at around 2 a.m. near Kalypsous Street. According to preliminary information, the driver lost control of the vehicle under circumstances that remain unclear.
The car left the road and slammed into a wall with such force that it brought down part of the structure. The vehicle was destroyed in the impact, with debris scattered over a radius of at least 30 meters.
According to a statement given to police, a woman was standing at the exact location just seconds before the car went out of control and swept through the area while she was waiting for a taxi.
Firefighters freed two passengers
All five people were initially inside the vehicle. Three managed to get out of the wreckage on their own, while two remained trapped inside, prompting a rescue operation by the Fire Service.
Firefighters, police officers and ambulances from Greece’s National Emergency Aid Center, known as EKAV, rushed to the scene.
All five injured passengers were taken to Asklipieio Voula Hospital.
Three passengers later died
Initial assessments indicated that four of the five passengers had suffered serious injuries, while one was less seriously injured.
Their condition, however, deteriorated several hours later, and three of the passengers died from their injuries.
Traffic police are conducting the preliminary investigation into the exact circumstances and causes of the crash.
