Significant traffic restrictions will be in effect on Tuesday evening, June 23, across central Athens and Kallithea due to the 10km, 6km, and 1,000-meter road races of the Special Olympics, held as part of the SNF Nostos Run 2026.
According to the Hellenic Police, rolling traffic suspensions will be implemented from 8:30 p.m. until the conclusion of the event. Parking and stopping bans along several roads will take effect as early as 6:00 a.m. and remain in place until the races are finished.
The affected routes include major thoroughfares such as Vasilissis Sofias, Vasilissis Amalias, Vasilissis Konstantinou, Syngrou, and Vasilissis Olgas avenues, as well as key roads surrounding Syntagma Square, the Panathenaic Stadium, and the Zappeion.
Drivers on Syngrou Avenue should pay particular attention, as traffic restrictions and parking bans will apply to sections of that corridor between 7:00 p.m. and 11:00 p.m.
Traffic police have designated alternative routes for motorists traveling from Syngrou Avenue toward the city center, as well as for those approaching from Mesogeion and Kifisias avenues.
Authorities are urging residents to plan their trips in advance, avoid the areas where the races will take place, and follow the directions of traffic officers on duty in order to minimize delays and congestion.
