Security camera footage has captured the moment a short circuit in overhead power lines triggered explosions, sparks and a fire in the Evosmos district of Thessaloniki.
The incident occurred in the early hours of Wednesday, when strong winds caused significant damage to the local electricity network.
Sparks and explosions caught on camera
The video shows explosions and sparks erupting from power lines before flames spread rapidly to nearby vegetation, alarming local residents.
According to initial assessments, the short circuit in the electricity cables was the cause of the explosions recorded by the security camera.
Fire brought under control
The fire spread quickly through surrounding vegetation before firefighters managed to bring the blaze under control.
Repair crews from Greece’s electricity distribution network operator were dispatched to the area to restore power following the damage to the electrical infrastructure.
