A serious case of alleged domestic violence has been reported in Chania, on the Greek island of Crete, where a 39-year-old woman was assaulted by her partner and his mother in front of two young children inside a hotel room.

The incident took place late on Saturday night, June 13, 2026, in the area of Kamisiana. According to reports, hotel staff heard a loud disturbance coming from one of the rooms and rushed to investigate. Upon entering, they found a visibly injured woman, her partner, his mother, and two minors present in the room. Emergency services and police were immediately alerted.

Police arrived at the scene shortly after.

Woman’s allegations

In her testimony, the 39-year-old woman said the altercation began with the 54-year-old mother of her partner. She alleged that the woman insulted her, pulled her hair, and punched her in the face.

She further stated that her 31-year-old partner then intervened and also struck her in the face, escalating the violence.

Incident witnessed by children

The confrontation reportedly took place in front of two young children. One is the woman’s nine-year-old child from a previous relationship, while the other is a three-year-old child she shares with her partner.

The presence of the children has intensified concern over the case, highlighting the impact of the incident on minors who were directly exposed to the violence.

Legal steps and investigation

All individuals involved were taken to a domestic violence police unit, where the 31-year-old man was arrested, according to local reports. Although the woman has reportedly stated she does not wish to press charges against her partner or his mother, authorities have already ordered a forensic medical examination due to the severity of her injuries.

The case remains under investigation.
