A 59-year-old construction worker has died after falling from the roof of a building at a construction site in the central Greek city of Lamia, in the latest fatal workplace accident in the country.
The incident occurred at around 5:20 p.m. on Wednesday at the construction site of the Panhellenic Exhibition of Lamia. According to local reports, the worker, who was part of a specialized construction crew, was working on the roof when, under circumstances that remain under investigation, he lost his balance and fell approximately six meters (20 feet).
An ambulance from Greece’s National Center for Emergency Care (EKAB) rushed the critically injured man to Lamia General Hospital.
He was immediately admitted to the intensive care unit and placed on life support. Despite extensive efforts by doctors and medical staff, he died several hours later from his injuries.
The victim, originally from the Achaia regional unit in western Greece, was the father of three children.
