The latest travel “bucket list” to include a Greek isle ahead of the coming summer season is the popular Italian bloggers’ site Girovagate.com, with the Sporades Island of Skopelos, in the central Aegean, taking “top honors”.

The island, which emerged on the international scene as the backdrop of the hit movie “Mamma Mia!”, is described under a heading reading “Not Just Sea and Sun”, as “…part of the Greece we adore, where nature still rules, where the scent of pine trees mingles with saltiness and where the pace is slow, almost reminding you that you are on vacation. Despite having become famous thanks to the movie ‘Mamma Mia!’, Skopelos has managed to keep its charm intact: tourists are there – I’m certainly not talking about an unknown island! – especially in July and August, but discreetly, without creating overtourism, which is talked about all too much lately.”

Skopelos tops the list of four regions, with the others being southern France’s Provence, Malta and the Dalmatian coast on the Adriatic.

Meanwhile, according to data by Ferryscanner, Skopelos was among the “surprises” of the recent Easter holiday season in Greece, as tickets for the island posted a significant increase, compared to the 2024 season.
