Sianti Gallery presents its highly anticipated group exhibition, “In Love: Love in Art,” opening today, Friday, February 14, 2025, at 20:00. Curated by art historian Hera Papapostolou, this exhibition is set to be the most evocative and romantic of the year, exploring love through the lens of contemporary Greek artists.

Belivanaki Lila, “Just laying here”, 100×70 cm.

Love is an intricate and multifaceted emotion, encompassing attraction, devotion, and tenderness. Yet, in an era dominated by social changes and digital interactions, the question “What is Love?” remains as relevant as ever. Seeking to answer this, the exhibition brings together 27 renowned and emerging Greek artists, whose paintings and sculptures interpret love in all its forms—passionate, tender, joyful, and tumultuous.

Papaioannou Christina, ” Elevated ”, 120 x 100 cm.

Through large- and medium-scale paintings and sculptures, the exhibition captures the essence of love, much like a poetic sonnet materialized in visual form. The artists’ works reflect both the serenity and turmoil that love can bring, presenting dreamlike depictions alongside raw, surreal expressions.

Curator Hera Papapostolou, in her exhibition catalogue, delves into the psychology of love, referencing neurologist-psychiatrist Mattheos Josaphat: “Love is the projection of our needs on other people who, we hope, will fulfill them. And because we want them to fulfill them, we idolize them, believing they are the ones we want. […] Love is our only chance of compensating for everything our mother and father didn’t give us.’ On the other hand, had there not been this inner need, we wouldn’t have so many books, poems, sculptures, music, choreographies, plays and paintings. All because Love inspires us, and has been at the core of artistic work throughout the centuries.”

The exhibition will remain open until March 8.
