Construction has officially entered the implementation phase for the long-delayed casino and entertainment complex in the northern Athens suburb of Marousi, with cranes already operating on site and material deliveries continuing at an intensive pace.
The site lies adjacent to the Athens Olympic complex (OAKA).
The project concerns the relocation of the greater Athens-Piraeus area’s sole operating casino from atop Mount Parnitha to Marousi, a plan that in the past sparked political, legal and urban planning debate for years.
Supporters of the project have argued it will create jobs and boost investment in the wider area surrounding OAKA and two well-known shopping malls, while opponents, including some local residents and adjacent municipal authorities, have raised concerns over traffic congestion, environmental impact and changes to the character of the district.
