The “digital wallets” of Greece and Cyprus, “Gov.gr Wallet” and the “digital citizen” app, respectively, as of Monday are connected, allowing citizens of either country living in the other to better facilitate transactions and ID confirmation with credit institutions and public agencies.

The initiative was presented on Monday at the presidential mansion in Nicosia by visiting Greek Minister Dimitris Papastergiou and Cyprus’ Deputy Minister of Research, Innovation and Digital Policy, Nicodemos Damianou.

The initiative, in the first phase, allows for mutual recognition and confirmation of a holder’s digital ID and driver’s license.

Last month, the Greek government announced that all new national ID cards will now also include a singular 12-digit personal identification number (PIN), enabling citizens to access a wide range of state services and transactions.
