Ferry services from Greece’s main port of Piraeus are expected to gradually resume Thursday morning as authorities lift a sailing ban imposed during severe weather, although disruptions continue across ports serving Athens and the surrounding region.

The sailing ban at Piraeus is expected to be lifted at 9 a.m., with vessels preparing to board passengers and vehicles. Ferries scheduled to leave earlier in the morning have not departed.

After 9 a.m., departures are expected to begin gradually according to ferry companies’ schedules, provided weather conditions allow.

Travelers could still face changes throughout the day, however, with authorities due to provide a further update at noon.

Saronic Gulf services depend on conditions

A different arrangement applies to routes connecting Piraeus with the Saronic Gulf islands.

Whether conventional ferries and high-speed hydrofoils operate will depend on prevailing weather conditions and the judgment of individual captains.

Passengers traveling on those routes are being advised to contact their travel agencies or the relevant port authority to confirm whether their sailing will go ahead.

Rafina and Lavrio departures remain disrupted

Morning ferry services from Rafina to the Cyclades have not operated because of the weather.

The exception is the route to Marmari, on the island of Evia, which is expected to operate normally.

Morning departures from Lavrio, southeast of Athens, have also been suspended due to weather conditions.

Ferry companies are notifying passengers of changes to schedules and departure times, with a new update expected at noon to clarify how services will operate for the remainder of the day as the severe weather develops.

Passengers planning to travel are being urged to check the latest announcements from their ferry company and contact travel agencies or port authorities before heading to the port, as both departure times and individual sailings remain subject to change.
