In Thessaloniki, partly cloudy skies are forecast, with clouds temporarily becoming denser and winds blowing from varying directions at up to 2 to 3 Beaufort. Temperatures will range from 17 to 24-25 degrees Celsius.
Storms Cause Damage over Weekend
The forecast marks a clear improvement from the conditions seen across Greece on Sunday, when significant rainfall, intense lightning activity and gale-force winds of 7 to 8 Beaufort were recorded in parts of the country.
According to the automatic weather station network of the National Observatory of Athens / Meteo.gr, significant accumulated rainfall was recorded over the weekend of Sept. 26 and 27, 2026, particularly in parts of eastern and southern Greece, with the heaviest rainfall reported in Evia, Central Greece and the southeastern Peloponnese.
Measurements show that from Saturday, Sept. 26, through 2:20 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 27, the highest accumulated rainfall was recorded at the weather station in Kavomalia, Laconia, where it reached 180 millimeters. Significant rainfall totals were also recorded at weather stations in Evia and Central Greece, where more than 110 to 160 millimeters was recorded.
A powerful storm hit the beach of Mononaftis in the Municipality of Malevizi, near Heraklion, Crete, turning roads into torrents.
In Heraklion, two incidents involving sections of balconies collapsing were also recorded in different parts of the city. The collapses may have been linked to the heavy rainfall recorded earlier.
In the first incident, part of a building in the Agia Triada area collapsed. The building had previously housed a storage facility but is no longer in use. The collapse damaged a parked motorcycle. The incident caused concern in the area, as residents pointed out that there are many old buildings in the wider neighborhood.
The second incident occurred in the Poros area, where part of a balcony fell onto the road. Fortunately, no one was injured in this case either.
