A 65-year-old Italian man being held in pretrial detention in connection with the deaths of a mother and her son in Logos, near the Greek city of Aigio, continues to maintain his innocence.
Speaking from Korydallos Prison, the 65-year-old, who was the partner of the 54-year-old woman found dead in the family home, insisted he had no involvement in the case. The woman’s son was also found dead inside the same house.
The case continues to draw the attention of both investigators and the public as new evidence emerges. According to the latest developments, forensic experts found the 54-year-old woman’s DNA on the murder weapon, along with genetic material belonging to another individual whose identity has not yet been established.
The laboratory findings are being examined alongside the rest of the evidence as investigators work to solve the mystery surrounding the deaths of the two victims, nearly 45 days after the incident.
Authorities are examining every possible scenario, including the possibility that the mother killed her son before taking her own life. The investigation remains ongoing as police seek to establish the exact circumstances under which the mother and son died.
“I’m Innocent. I Can’t Even Mourn.”
The 65-year-old Italian, who has denied any involvement since the beginning of the investigation, told Greek broadcaster ANT1 from prison:
“I’m innocent. I can’t even mourn. I want this case to be over. I have nothing more to say than what I’ve said from the very beginning. Maria, who was in a very fragile psychological state, shot Olympios. Then she took her own life.”
According to reports, the Italian man’s lawyers are expected to file a request for his release from pretrial detention next week. The defense is expected to submit evidence that it says overturns the initial theory that the case was a double homicide.
“My Brother Never Hurt Even a Fly”
The suspect’s brother also spoke to ANT1, expressing his certainty that the 65-year-old had no involvement in the deaths.
“He still loves Maria, despite everything that happened. He still loves her and cries every day for Olympios. Olympios was a wonderful person, such a good man. My brother never hurt even a fly. My brother picking up a gun and killing someone? It’s impossible. If I believed my brother had killed Maria and Olympios, I would tell you he deserved to remain in prison for the rest of his life,” he said.
What the Forensic Tests Revealed
The investigation into the deaths of the mother and son in Logos, near Aigio, continues to deepen as new forensic laboratory findings add another dimension to the case.
According to reports, investigators found the 54-year-old mother’s DNA on the weapon used in the killings, along with genetic material from another individual who has not yet been identified.
In addition, traces of gunshot residue were found on the woman’s hands, indicating that she appears to have handled the firearm used to shoot her son.
However, as ANT1 reported on Saturday, investigators have not yet determined whether she handled the weapon on the night of the killings or at an earlier time. The presence of gunshot residue on the mother’s hands alone is not sufficient to establish who fired the shot that killed her 26-year-old son.
