A body recovered from the sea in northern Greece has been identified as the 69-year-old fisherman who had been missing since a boating accident last week, authorities said.
According to the Hellenic Coast Guard, the body was found on Saturday afternoon in the coastal area of Korinos, in the Pieria regional unit, by a private individual, who alerted the authorities. It was reported to be in an advanced state of decomposition.
The body was transferred to the General Hospital of Katerini, where the man’s relatives identified him in the early hours of Monday.
Boat overturned during fishing trip
The fisherman had been reported missing since Tuesday, July 14, after the small boat he was aboard with his wife capsized under circumstances that remain unclear.

His wife survived after being rescued by a private individual. She told authorities she had spent several hours swimming following the accident before being brought to safety.
The following morning, the overturned boat and the missing man’s personal belongings were found washed ashore.
The circumstances surrounding the fatal accident remain under investigation.
