Protesting farmers, stockbreeders and beekeepers camped out overnight in front of Parliament, in central Athens’ Syntagma Square, gradually began departing on Saturday morning, taking along with them several tractors brought to the Greek capital to emphasize their mobilizations.

Numerous roadblocks were set up last December in major intersections on provincial highways to pressure the government to allocate more aid to the farm sector.

The boulevard in front of Parliament remained closed on Friday and Saturday morning, with the route that the tractors will take to depart the greater Athens area blocked off in intervals.

Representatives of protesting producers continue to demand measures aimed at reducing the cost of production, such as greater subsidies for diesel fuel and electricity, among others. Stockbreeders want more aid to deflect the financial damage they’ve incurred from the ongoing sheet and goat pox.

More maximalist demands are for guaranteed crop prices and even 100% compensation for damages.

Despite repeated meetings with the government, including with PM Kyriakos Mitsotakis, producers’ representatives continue to maintain that they are not satisfied.
