Rain and thunderstorms, which may be severe in several regions of Greece, are expected on Friday and over the weekend.

Friday’s Weather in Detail

Localized rain and scattered thunderstorms are forecast in the west and north of Greece, with the phenomena expected to intensify in the northwestern of the country by the evening, says the Hellenic National Meteorological Service (EMY).

EMY has forewarned Greece that an emergency alert bulletin is expected today.

Winds will be southerly, between 3-5 Beaufort, and will shift to northerlies in the northern regions of Greece, at 5-6 Beaufort, by the afternoon.

No significant changes are expected for the country’s temperatures, with the northern mainland coming in at 15-16°C and 17-20°C elsewhere.

Emergency Bulletin Pending

Greece’s Civil Protection Risk Assessment Committee will meet today to evaluate the intensity of the weather phenomena and identify the most affected regions using the latest forecasts.

The primary concern is about the significant rainfall forecast for the weekend, especially in Central Macedonia and Thessaly. More precise updates will be issued later today.
