The second worker, 51, who was also employed by a contractor working with the refinery operator, remains hospitalized in critical condition.
The contractor’s onsite supervisor was arrested at the scene by police, as per standard procedure in such cases of serious work-place accidents.
Motor Oil said the accident occurred at around 11 a.m. during extensive preventive maintenance at its refinery. The injured workers received first aid and were taken to a general hospital, Thriasio, after emergency and safety protocols were activated.
The company expressed its condolences to the victim’s family and pledged to support them. It said it was cooperating fully with the competent authorities, who are investigating the cause of the accident.
