Christina Gkentzou continued her remarkable rise in para taekwondo by capturing the gold medal in the women’s under-65kg division at the European Championships in Munich, further cementing her dominance in the category.

The Greek champion, who also stood atop the European podium in Belgrade in 2024, added another major achievement to her growing résumé just months after claiming bronze at the Paris Paralympic Games.

Gkentzou faced Turkey’s Orhan in a demanding semifinal clash that lived up to its high-level billing. The contest went the distance, with the Greek athlete holding her nerve in the decisive third round to secure a hard-fought 2-1 victory.

Carrying that momentum into the final against Poland’s Zewar, Gkentzou left no room for doubt. She delivered a commanding performance from the outset, cruising to a 10-2 win in the opening round before sealing the contest with a dominant 16-6 scoreline in the second. The triumph earned Greece its first gold medal of the tournament in para taekwondo.

Bronze Medal for Tholiotis
Vasilis Tholiotis also impressed in the men’s under-87kg division at the European Championships.
The Greek athlete produced a series of strong performances on his way to the semifinals, first defeating Mokhtari of the Refugee Team and then Romania’s Snakov, winning both bouts 2-0.

In the semifinal, Tholiotis faced Poland’s Piatkowski in a closely contested encounter decided by fine margins. Despite his aggressive approach and sustained pressure, he was edged out 2-1 and ultimately secured the bronze medal.

With these results, the Greek delegation concluded the European Championships with a total of five medals.
