Greek international footballer Kostas Tsimikas has completed his own “treble” since arriving at Merseyside, helping Liverpool FC conquer every major domestic competition in England.
On Monday evening, the 28-year-old left fullback became the first Greek footballer to win a Premier League title in England with appearances for his club in the season.
The Reds on Monday clinched their 20th title in the English football top-tier club competition, putting them equal with archrivals Manchester United.
In front of a passionate crowd, Liverpool ran rampant against a struggling Tottenham Hotspur, scoring five goals in a festive Anfield atmosphere. The victory marked a milestone for Greek football as Tsimikas, or the “Greek Scouser,” an endearing term the fans at the Kop End call him, became the first Greek in history to lift the Premier League title.
Previously, Stathis Tavlaridis had technically won the Premier League with Arsenal in 2004, but without making a single appearance in the competition.
The Thessaloniki native left Olympiacos FC in 2020, making the move to the United Kingdom to join Liverpool. There, Jürgen Klopp assigned him the role of backup left-back, behind Andrew Robertson.
This season, wearing the Reds’ jersey, the “Greek Scouser” made 27 appearances, 16 of which came in the Premier League. He also had one assist in the competition — delivering a cross for Diogo Jota’s goal against Nottingham Forest on January 14.
