Two beaches in Crete have been ranked among the five best beaches in the world for 2026, according to Tripadvisor users, highlighting Greece’s continued appeal as one of the world’s leading summer destinations.
Topping Tripadvisor’s global beach rankings was Isla Pasion in Mexico, which the travel platform described as a premier destination for relaxation, known for its tranquil atmosphere, shaded coastline and scenic surroundings.
Crete Claims Two Spots in the Top Three
Elafonissi Beach, on the southwest coast of Crete, secured second place worldwide. Tripadvisor highlighted its distinctive pink sand and turquoise waters, describing it as a destination that “has to be seen to be believed.”
The beach’s shallow lagoons make it particularly attractive for families with young children, while deeper waters offer opportunities for swimming and snorkeling. Visitors are also encouraged to stay through sunset, one of the area’s most celebrated attractions.
Balos Lagoon, also in Crete, ranked third globally. Known for its crystal-clear waters and soft white sand, Balos offers visitors a secluded feel despite its popularity.
Tripadvisor noted that the beach’s calm, shallow waters make it ideal for families, while easy access and visitor amenities, including refreshments and snacks, add to its appeal.
The rankings reinforce Crete’s reputation as one of the Mediterranean’s premier beach destinations, with two of its most iconic coastlines earning places among the world’s highest-rated seaside escapes.
