Iran said on Tuesday that recent nuclear talks with the United States provided an opportunity to gauge Washington’s seriousness and produced sufficient consensus to continue diplomatic efforts.
Spokesperson for Iran’s Foreign Ministry, Baghaei, described last week’s meetings in Oman, conducted through Omani mediators, as a short but significant step. “The Muscat meeting was not a long meeting. In our view, it was to gauge the seriousness of the other side and how to continue this path,” he said.

Baghaei added that the discussions demonstrated enough understanding and alignment to keep negotiations on the diplomatic track. The meetings came amid heightened tensions in the region, including U.S. naval deployments that had raised fears of potential military action.
Iran’s National Security Council advisor Ali Larijani visited Oman on Tuesday for follow-up consultations and is expected to travel to Qatar next. Baghaei emphasized the importance of the U.S. maintaining an independent approach in its negotiations, particularly in light of anticipated Israeli influence: “The U.S. must act independently of foreign pressures, especially Israeli pressures that ignore the interests of the region and even the U.S.”
The talks mark a cautious but notable step in efforts to address ongoing nuclear tensions, reflecting Tehran’s willingness to engage.
