Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis visited the small islets of Ro and Strongyli on Saturday, inspecting military observation posts and speaking with armed forces officers and conscripts serving at the locations. His arrival marked the first time a serving Greek prime minister has visited both small islets during the same trip.
Both small islets lie close to the inhabited island of Kastellorizo (Megisti), the southeastern-most Greek isle in the Mediterranean just off the southwest Asia Minor coast.
Mitsotakis was accompanied by Parliament President Nikitas Kaklamanis, the chief of the Hellenic National Defense General Staff, Gen. Dimitris Houpis, and South Aegean Regional Governor Giorgos Hatzimarkos.
Visit to Ro
During his visit to Ro, the prime minister was briefed on the new pier being constructed and toured a military post’s new facilities.
