A 25-year-old man has also been sent to jail after his arrest in connection with the deadly gas-canister attack on the home of the Nestora family, which took place in the early hours of July 1 and killed Vagia Nestora.

The young man testified before the investigating judge handling the case, and with the prosecutor’s agreement, he was ordered held in pretrial detention. The number of suspects now in custody has risen to four, matching the total number of arrests made so far.

25-year-old denies the charges

During his testimony, the 25-year-old reportedly denied any involvement in the case, insisting he had no connection to the attack.

According to reports, he claimed the accusations made against him by the 24-year-old owner of the apartment were false. That owner had allegedly identified him as the person to whom he handed over the keys to the apartment, which was used by the attackers before and after the assault.

Sources say he denied ever handling the keys or passing them on to those who carried out the attack.

With this latest detention, the number of people held in pretrial custody in the case now stands at four. Besides the 25-year-old, they include the apartment owner and the two individuals accused of physically carrying out the attack, a 29-year-old man and a 26-year-old woman.

The investigation by the Anti-Terrorism Unit is continuing. The case file being handled by the investigating judge covers both the fatal attack on the Nestora home and two other firebombing attacks with gas canisters that took place on the same day at the homes of Zisis Ioakeimovits, head of the New Democracy governing committee in Thessaloniki, and former MP Savvas Anastasiadis. The prosecution involves serious charges, including homicide with possible intent, membership in a terrorist organization, causing an explosion, possession of explosives, and arson.
