The very high-profile president of one association representing relatives of Tempi victims, Maria Karystianou, on Tuesday evening announced her resignation, amid swirling speculation in the country that she’ll proceed with creating a political party that will stand in the upcoming general election.

“It is with great regret that I note that despite doing everything in my power to maintain the unity of the association, remaining silent and forbearing, and fighting with all my strength for justice regarding Tempi – despite the constant ‘obstacles’ I faced from within when petty political criteria prevailed, in the end division prevailed,” Karystianou announced in a lengthy post on her FB page.

She also decried what she called the irregular manner in which the other board members of the specific organization called for her resignation.
