All schools across Greece’s Cyclades and Dodecanese island groups will remain closed on Wednesday, April 1, 2026, as authorities take precautionary measures in response to an incoming severe weather system.

The decision was announced by the regional governor of the South Aegean, George Hatzimarkos, following warnings of dangerous weather conditions associated with Storm Erminio.

Safety measures across all education levels

The suspension applies to all educational institutions, including primary and secondary schools, preschools, and special education facilities. Officials said the move was taken to ensure the safety of students and staff and to avoid travel during hazardous conditions.

Weather alert issued by national services

The closure follows an emergency weather bulletin issued by the national meteorological service, which forecasts intense and potentially disruptive weather across the affected island regions.
