Μake us preferred on Google Greece’s National Civil Protection Mechanism has been placed on heightened alert (“Red Code”) for Thursday, July 30, after authorities forecast a very high wildfire risk across large parts of the country.
According to the Ministry of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection, the Fire Risk Forecast Map classifies the affected areas as Category 4 (Very High Risk). All relevant emergency services have been notified, while regional and municipal authorities have been instructed to convene their operational coordination bodies to ensure full preparedness.
Areas Under Very High Wildfire Risk
The Category 4 wildfire warning applies to:
- Attica Region, including the island of Kythera
- Crete Region
- Peloponnese Region: Corinth, Argolis, Arcadia, and Laconia regional units
- Central Greece Region: Boeotia, Phthiotis, Phocis, and Evia regional units, including the island of Skyros
- North Aegean Region: Lesbos, Chios, Samos, and Ikaria regional units
- South Aegean Region: Cyclades regional unit
Authorities Urge Extreme Caution
The General Secretariat for Civil Protection has issued a strong appeal for the public to avoid any outdoor work or activities that could accidentally ignite a wildfire.
Authorities specifically warned against:
- Burning dry grass, branches, or other vegetation, which is already prohibited throughout the wildfire season.
- Using equipment that produces sparks, such as cutting tools or welding equipment.
- Using outdoor barbecues or smoke-producing beekeeping equipment.
- Discarding lit cigarettes.
