A serious road accident occurred in Ilion, a western suburb of Athens, on Thursday afternoon (June 18), after a 48-year-old driver reportedly attempted an overtaking maneuver that led to a chain collision involving multiple vehicles.
According to the information available, the driver’s car collided with another vehicle traveling on the road. Following the impact, the second vehicle lost control and crashed into a motorcycle carrying two young men, aged 22 and 24.
The force of the collision caused the motorcycle to be thrown into parked vehicles, resulting in significant damage.
The two young riders suffered severe injuries and were transferred to Attikon Hospital, where they remain in critical condition.
Fatal motorcycle crash in Egaleo under investigation
A separate fatal accident occurred shortly before midnight on a side road of Kifissos Avenue, near Egaleo, in the direction of Lamia.
A 46-year-old motorcycle rider lost control of his vehicle under circumstances that have not yet been clarified, according to information reported by Greek public broadcaster ERT.
The motorcycle veered off its course and struck metal railings, causing fatal injuries to the rider.
An ambulance from Greece’s emergency medical service (EKAB) arrived at the scene, where the man was pronounced dead. Authorities temporarily closed the area to carry out emergency operations and collect evidence.
A preliminary investigation is underway to determine the exact circumstances that led to the crash.
