Forecasters expect generally clear skies during the morning, with cloud cover developing in some areas from midday through the afternoon. Localized showers and brief thunderstorms are possible, mainly over mountainous regions stretching from Macedonia to the Peloponnese and Crete, while isolated rainfall could also affect lowland areas in western Greece.
Temperatures are expected to rise noticeably, reaching 31-33 degrees Celsius on the islands and 33-35C across mainland Greece. In some eastern mainland regions, highs could locally reach 37C.
Winds in the Ionian Sea and southern Aegean will blow from the west at 3-5 Beaufort, while in other maritime areas they are expected to gradually shift southerly, reaching up to 4 Beaufort.
In Athens, weather conditions will remain mostly sunny, although clouds are expected to develop over northern mountainous areas during the afternoon, bringing a chance of brief local showers. Temperatures in the capital will range from 22C to 35C, with light winds turning southerly later in the day.
Thessaloniki is forecast to enjoy largely clear skies throughout the day, with temperatures between 22C and 34C. Light southerly winds of 2-3 Beaufort are expected over the Thermaic Gulf.
