Μake us preferred on Google Music, art, history, and spirituality are the focus of this year’s The Chios Festival, to take place on the island from August 25 to September 4.
In its fifth year, the festival brings prominent international speakers to Chios, with the aim of promoting the island and its culture, and serving as a platform for exchange.
The 11-day festival is organized by the North Aegean Region and held under the auspices of UNESCO and the American-Hellenic Chamber of Commerce.
This year’s program features concerts, film screenings, theater performances, conferences, and academic panel discussions with distinguished speakers, artists, and scholars from Greece and abroad.
Prominent guests this year include H.B. Pope and Patriarch Theodore II of Alexandria and All Africa, Academy of Athens President Nikiforos Diamandouros, leading academics from Greek and international universities, and government officials.
Festival events will take place at venues across the island, including at Chios Castle, Castelli, Kardamyla, Volissos, Vrontados, Agios Georgios Sykousis, and Anavatos.
Festival highlights include a lecture by History Professor Maria Efthymiou of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens titled “Communal and Common-Ownership Life: An Ancient Element of Human Life”.
A special evening will honor H.B. Pope and Patriarch Theodore II of Alexandria and All Africa, who will also inaugurate the renovated Church of Agios Georgios.
The program also features a regional celebration marking the 100th anniversary of the Academy of Athens.
