Μake us preferred on Google The PlusArt Gallery in Gialova, in southern Greece, is presenting “Voka — Ode to Color,” the solo exhibition by Austrian artist Voka. The exhibition marks his Greek gallery debut and pays tribute to a country that has played a significant role in his life and artistic development.
Born in Austria in 1965, Voka has developed a distinctive approach to painting that he calls “Spontaneous Realism.” His work combines classical realism with spontaneous expression, dynamic brushwork and an intense use of color.
Rather than treating color simply as a compositional element, Voka uses it to convey movement, energy and emotion. His paintings move between observation and intuition, creating a dialogue between realistic representation and abstraction.
The artist’s connection to Greece stretches back more than two decades. Koroni, a town in the Peloponnese, has become a key reference point in his work, as he maintains a home and studio there.
The light of the region of Messenia, along with its landscapes, sea, people and scenes from everyday life, have found their way into Voka’s paintings. His experience of Greece has consequently become an ongoing source of observation and creation, influencing both the subjects he depicts and the atmosphere of his work.
Color at the center
At “Ode to Color,” color takes center stage. Through energetic brushstrokes and an immediate, spontaneous style, Voka transforms color into a means of expressing movement, energy, emotion and memory.
The exhibition highlights the defining elements of his practice: the coexistence of technique and spontaneity, the balance between representation and abstraction, and an attempt to capture not only what the artist sees but also what he feels.

Voka’s work is held in collections around the world, and he has exhibited in the United States, England and countries across the European Union. His paintings have also appeared at international art auctions.
The exhibition in Gialova therefore represents more than the artist’s first presentation at a Greek gallery. It also serves as a tribute to Greece, a country that has become an integral part of Voka’s life and creative identity.
