Greece on Monday signed a series of protocols for the acquisition of two Bergamini-class frigates from the Italian Navy, with an option to acquire another two for the Hellenic Navy. The vessels are part of the European multi-purpose frigate (FREMM) program.
The protocols were signed in La Spezia by Greek Defense Minister Nikos Dendias and his Italian counterpart Guido Crosetto.
Besides the signing of the agreements, penned aboard an Italian Navy frigate, both men discussed cooperation within the EU and in the Mediterranean basis, particularly on defense industries and innovation, according to Dendias himself.
