Μake us preferred on Google A 10-year-old girl was hospitalized after gunmen opened fire on a cafe in the Agios Panteleimon district shortly before midnight Friday, in an attack that is now being investigated by the Greek organized crime police.
Four armed men fired at the front of the cafe, at 32 Agorakritou Street, from a passing car, according to information gathered by investigators. The girl, the daughter of the cafe’s owner, was struck in the left leg. Her mother took her to the hospital. Initial reports left unclear whether the injury had been caused by a bullet or by debris, but investigators later determined that she had been hit by a projectile that ricocheted during the shooting. Her injuries are not considered life-threatening.
The car believed to have been used by the assailants was found a short time later in Aspropyrgos, west of Athens, completely burned.
Investigators also determined that a submachine gun had been used in the shooting, according to the latest information available.
The case has been taken over by the Directorate for Combating Organized Crime, the Greek police unit that handles investigations involving organized criminal activity.
